Showcasing their industry-recognised expertise, we look at the recent presentations delivered by our ecologists, project managers, and engineers, highlighting the knowledge they shared with industry colleagues.
Richard Taylor – Engineer
Richard represented New Zealand at the respected 2024 Water Loss Conference in San Sebastián. Richard’s expertise was on full display as the only engineer from New Zealand at this 600-strong conference. He presented on the latest updates to the Water New Zealand Water Loss Guideline (which Richard led the development of).
Packed with valuable insights, one of the conference workshops’ Richard found interesting was “Utilising Smart Meter Data’. With several New Zealand water suppliers implementing smart meters, this workshop on how to leverage data from these meters is very relevant to the work we do for our clients.
“It was also great to meet some old acquaintances from previous events”, says Taylor.
Lizette Venter – Ecologist
Lizette presented at the Wetland Symposium to a diverse audience of 230 including scientists, landowners, iwi, and wetland managers. She spoke about her research on water flow dynamics for rehabilitation efforts in South Africa, drawing parallels with our own country. Our Principal Ecologist, Melanie Dixon also attended the workshop and said “It was a great privilege to be welcomed on to the marae at Waitangi, and an absolute highlight to hear from mana whenua about their work in this space”.
Over the 3-day event attendees learnt about current and planned wetland research including rare species, significant sites, and mapping. Workshops were presented where they studied wetland soils and pasture methods. Plus, a field day trip included visits to various Northland wetland sites to learn about their history and significance.
Thank you to the Wetlands Trust for organising this event and uniting professionals who share a passion for our wetlands.
