From local gardens to global villages, Thomas Consultants champions the power of community involvement. Businesses have a responsibility to give back, and we’re passionate about supporting projects that make a real difference.
When Auckland Council asked us to help with a community garden project, we jumped at the chance and offered our services pro-bono.
Our mission sums up what drives us: To make a positive impact on our communities, region, and even the world, through projects that improve the built and natural environment, while considering social responsibility and economic benefits.
So, we offered our soil testing services to MPHS Community Trust, a local West Auckland group, to help them revive a community garden at their Hub West Community Centre. MPHS wants to grow veggies and fruit trees with the community, partnering with AEPA, a passionate group of retired locals keen on keeping NZ beautiful and fostering connections. This perfectly aligns with MPHS’s “people pride place” ethos, as their CEO, Kathryn Lawlor, shared: “We are really looking forward to seeing the garden evolve and becoming a feature of our wonderful community”.
The site had some history with horticulture, so even though contamination wasn’t likely, testing the soil for safety was a good call. We were happy to lend a hand and test the soil to support this project.
AEPA is thrilled to be part of the garden construction. They see the successful soil test as a strong foundation for the future garden, saying: “It’s crucial for building an eco-friendly, vibrant community space, offering residents a comfortable and healthy environment for outdoor activities.”
